1. Discover Whitehorse
& White Pass Yukon Railroad
Departs: Whitehorse, from May to September
Located on the banks of the Yukon River, Whitehorse is the largest city
in the territory as well as Yukon’s capital, and is your base for this three
night experience. Enjoy a city tour, offering a brief introduction into the
local history, with highlights which include Old Log Church, Fish Ladder,
SS Klondike and Miles Canyon Lookout. Travelling by motorcoach from
the White Pass Depot in Whitehorse, it’s a scenic journey along the South
Klondike Highway to Fraser, British Columbia, from where you board the
world-famous narrow gauge White Pass & Yukon Railroad. A 28 mile rail
journey descends into Skagway, Alaska, where there is opportunity to
have lunch and stroll the historic town before making the journey back
to Whitehorse.
2. Kluane National Park Adventures
Departs: Whitehorse, from January to December
This full day sightseeing trip, taking 12 hours, is undoubtedly a long tour –
but it is worth every minute of your time. Kluane National Park is a natural
treasure, which continually leaves visitors awe-inspired by its beauty. It
includes Canada's tallest mountain; Mount Logan at 5,959 metres, which
makes up a portion of the St. Elias Mountain Range. In fact, glaciers and
mountains dominate the park's landscape, covering 82% of its entire
area. The park is also home to a wide variety of plants, birds and wildlife,
including grizzly bears, moose and wolves.
3. Muktuk Husky Adventures
Departs: Whitehorse, from January to December
Muktuk Adventures welcomes guests of all ages and interests to share an
authentic Yukon experience. If you’ve ever dreamt of sledding across a
frozen river topped with untouched snow on a perfectly clear winter day,
Muktuk Adventures can turn that dream into reality. The Takhini Valley has
a profound effect on the human soul. Surrounded by low-lying mountain
ranges where the only sound you hear is your dog team, running at a modest
pace as they love to do, and perhaps the call of an eagle or a raven nearby.
Located 20 minutes from Whitehorse, choose from a three, four or seven
night package staying at the pretty guest ranch, or one of the day trip options.
Mushing activities are available November to April, whilst the snow sustains
the activity. Between May and September, day tours with the dogs, hiking,
canoeing and horse riding are available, whilst dog training runs and hiking are
on the calendar during September and October.
4. Yukon River Canoe Adventure
Departs: Whitehorse, from June to August
This eight day Yukon River canoe trip retraces part of the Klondike Gold Rush
route of 1898. The first and last nights are at a hotel in Whitehorse, with the
intervening five nights under canvas. Accompanied by an experienced guide,
you do not have to be an expert paddler to enjoy a trip down the Yukon
River. Thanks to its steady current, realistic daily goals are easily reached
allowing ample opportunity to explore the gold rush relics on the way. More
than history thrives along this river, so be sure to watch the shores for wolves,
moose and bears, the waters for beaver, otters, muskrats and arctic grayling
and look to the skies for bald eagles, falcons and hawks.
