The Roanoke Valley located in the Blue Ridge Mountains is the home to Roanoke where a 100-foot high star atop a mountain and visible from miles around welcomes you to the “Star City of the South,” rich in culture, history, fun, and entertainment.

Roanoke is among the few metro areas that enjoy immediate proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway – one of the most popular attractions in the national parks system. Near downtown, the Mill Mountain Parkway Spur takes you on a scenic drive around the back of Roanoke’s beloved Mill Mountain – home to the Mill Mountain Zoo, the Discovery Center, nature trails, and Roanoke’s famous Star and overlook, with its captivating views of the city.

For underground delights, head over to the Dixie Caverns for a 45-minute tour of breathtaking cave formations, after which you can browse through pottery, rock and mineral and other shops.
