From the Rocky Mountains in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west, the Evergreen State harbours an abundance of natural beauty.

Seattle

Curved around the shore of Elliott Bay, with Lake Washington and the snow-capped peak of Mount Rainier framing the skyline, lies Seattle with its eclectic cafes, restaurants and music scene. Shopping too abounds, from small designer boutiques to the modern malls of Pacific Place. Explore Pike Place Market, relax at a street-side cafe or stroll the waterfront.

Everyone should experience the Space Needle and Pike Place Market at least once, but those aren’t the only draws worth a visit. Seattle has so much to offer, from major attractions to unexpected surprises. Take in stunning views from vantages around town, including Kerry Park and the Seattle Great Wheel on the waterfront. Learn all about the region’s deep aviation roots among the vintage airplanes and spacecraft at the Museum of Flight. Feel the wind on your face as you cruise across Puget Sound on a Washington State Ferry. Sip offerings from more than 100 different Washington wineries in nearby Woodinville. Or peer up at more than a thousand colorful glass discs suspended overhead in Chihuly Garden and Glass. Seattle is a sightseer’s paradise.

Outdoor adventure

If seeking adventure, try white water rafting, mountain biking, canyoning, llama trekking or a cruise through Puget Sound and discover a water world of tiny islands. To relax, savour the wine of the Yakima Valley, discover the indigenous Native Americans of the Palouse or marvel at the prowess of the Grand Coulee Dam.

The Cascade Mountains loom above the Seattle skyline drawing hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. Ski the volcanic slopes of Mount Baker, drive the scenic Cascade Loop tour or simply sit back and enjoy the view.

A state for exploration

Undoubtedly, this is a state which begs for exploration. Although a city break to incredible Seattle is in itself, a joy, if you have additional time and a passion for adventure, then take a fly drive or a fully-escorted motorcoach tour and see the beautiful towns and intricate locations which make Washington State the true wonder that it is.

Comprising a myriad of regions, each has its own unique personality. The Olympic Peninsula brims with natural wonders, as does the mystical Volcanoes Region and the dramatic Gorge Region. But also head to Wine Country, where vineyards overflow with award winning vintages and the North Cascades Region which benefits from a beautiful coastline looking out to the San Juan Islands which were fought over by the Canadians and Americans, both wanting these beautiful isles for themselves.

If you’re looking to venture further afield, Washington makes a perfect combination with Oregon, sitting to the south. Joined, they make an area named the Pacific Northwest.
