Whilst in town, you’ll want to explore some of its musical attractions, such as the Country Music Hall of Fame, Johnny Cash Museum and Rhyman Theatre, before sampling some live music in one of the many honky tonks on Lower Broadway – locally known as the Honky Tonk Highway! Although music plays a huge part in Nashville’s culture, there is much more to explore in the city. Make sure to head down to the water and perhaps enjoy  a cruise on the river. Bristol (Appalachian Mountains)

291mi / 468km

Today, you’ll hit the road for a two night stay in Bristol, which is the gateway to the Appalachians. Bristol is a truly unique place. Its ‘Main Street’  is known as State Street because it is divided by a state line, meaning half is in Virginia and the other Tennessee. During your time in Bristol, you will find a plethora of options when it comes to shopping, dining and entertainment. Perhaps the two main attractions are music and NASCAR. Bristol Motor Speedway is an iconic race track, which sits in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Be sure to visit the Birthplace of Country Music Museum, where you can learn about the legendary Bristol Sessions that took place in the downtown area.

For those looking for a little bit of outdoor activity, Bristol has multiple city parks, including Steele Creek Park, which encompasses more than 2,100 acres and features numerous hiking trails around the lake, along with paddleboats, a nature centre, and a golf course. There is also South Holston Lake and Dam to add to your schedule and, lets not forget, this is the gateway to the Appalachian Mountains.
