Bears, Trains & Icebergs from Anchorage
Anchorage, Girdwood, Whittier & Valdez
ALASKA
Search for wildlife such as whales, sea otters, and sea lions as you transfer two hours to Columbia Glacier by water taxi. This is Alaska’s second-largest tidewater glacier. Since the early 1980s, the glacier has been retreating catastrophically off of the terminal moraine leaving an 8-mile-long field of floating icebergs. You will be dropped off near the moraine of the glacier to paddle for about 4 hours around the icebergs. Conditions permitting you will go beyond the terminal moraine and into upper Columbia Bay. Time is included for a lunch break and a short hike on the glacier’s gravel moraine. After the break, you will continue exploring the coastline by kayak.
