Kay El Bar Guest Ranch has been offering western hospitality since 1918, when the first paying guests arrived at the cattle ranch. This small, historic guest ranch is situated in the heart of the Wild West – it sits in the little town of Wickenburg, 72 miles from Phoenix Airport. Sitting in 100 acres with over 2,000 acres of riding land, it inhabits the Sonoran Desert, in the shadow of the Hassayampa River Canyon Wilderness, with nearby Hassayampa Hill offering desert vistas and unforgettable sunsets.
Accommodation
The charming adobe ranch was built in the early 1900s, and is listed on the Arizona and National Historic Registers. While providing modern conveniences, lodging are in buildings made of adobe brick hand-made by the Maricopa Indians who lived on the nearby reservation. There are nine rooms in the Lodge; one 3-room family house; one 4-person family casita and one 2-person casita.
- Main Lodge – Comfortable and charming, each of the eight guestrooms in the Main Lodge has a private modern bath, hand-painted Monterey furniture, custom cowboy bedspreads and drapes, and a collection of western artwork.
- Homestead House – Accommodating up to seven people; spacious private housing with private entrances; two bedrooms (one with Queen bed, second with King or two twin beds), sleep alcove with one twin; large living room with fireplace, table and chairs, couch, and two twins/convertible to corner couch; two spacious, modern bathrooms, each with shower/tub combination.
- Casa Grande – Up to two adults and two children; large suite, with access by a private entrance; cozy sitting area with fireplace. There is a king-sized bed (or two twin beds), and a trundle that can sleep up to two; spacious modern bathroom with shower.
Facilities And Activities
- Delicious home cooking: in the hacienda-style dining room and cowboy cookouts under the star-studded Arizona skies. Western entertainers singing songs and reading cowboy poetry.
- Ranch activities: Horseback riding; hiking; shooting; archery; UTV tours; stargazing; bird watching; heated swimming pool & hot tub; evening campfires; games and puzzles available in the living room; team penning.
- Riding:Twice daily except Sundays and holidays when it is morning-only. Sunday has a long morning ride. All-day rides provided upon request with sack lunch provided. Trail riding begins with children age 5 and older, based on conditions.
- Hiking: The ranch offers a scenic hiking trail with panoramic views.
- Birding: Abundant bird species identified on the ranch by the Audubon Society.
- Nearby activities: Golf and tennis are available a short drive from the ranch.
