Idaho Falls

Nestled among the Rocky Mountains in the Snake River Plain, beneath the shadow of the Grand Teton, Idaho Falls is a place worth exploring. The Idaho Falls Greenbelt covers five miles on both sides of the Snake River. Hop on a bike or enjoy a walk on this beautiful paved path to explore the things that make Idaho Falls unique, including numerous local shops and restaurants and a 600 foot wide waterfall that spans the river.

Take a tour of animals from around the globe at the Idaho Falls Zoo. Watch lions from Africa, spy on sloth bears from Asia or wander by wallabies on your stroll through the zoo. Enjoy hands-on fun as you pet and feed goats, sheep and pigs in the Children’s Zoo or check out a Keeper Chat or Animal Encounter Show to learn more about your favorite animals.

Twin Falls

Start your visit with a visit to the Visitors Centre, which  includes a variety of exhibits showcasing the natural features and history of the region. An interpretive center includes a display of the historic I.B. Perrine stagecoach, exhibits about the agricultural history and geology of the Snake River Canyon, as well as photographs and information about the abundant recreational opportunities the area has to offer. The Center also serves as a centralized location for exhibits about the Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument, Minidoka National Historic Site, Craters of the Moon National Monument and City of Rocks National Reserve. 

Soar through the solar system in the newly upgraded Faulkner Planetarium or peek at a planet from the Centennial Observatory. Explore the museum galleries where you’ll see a complete mammoth skeleton, fossils, contemporary art, and artifacts from ancient cultures. 

The Canyon Rim Trail is one of Twin Falls’ most beautiful trails. This trail runs along the south side of the Snake River Canyon providing miles of paved entertainment.There are numerous trails in the hills near Twin Falls. Ross Falls Trail, located in the Sawtooth National Forest, is an easy hike to a waterfall. Twin Falls also has several locations for great urban trails. Visitors can find trails by the Rock Creek Canyon, Dierkes Lake, Auger Falls and Centennial Park.

Located at the edge of Twin Falls, Shoshone Falls is a natural beauty on the Snake River. At 212 feet, the falls are higher than Niagara Falls. The falls offer a unique blend of recreational facilities, including playgrounds, hiking trails, picnic areas, a boat ramp, swimming area, and a scenic overlook. A picnic in the shaded, grassy areas provides a perfect vantage point for viewing the falls.

Craters of the Moon National Monument & Preserve

Craters of the Moon spans 750,000 acres! The vast terrain includes lava tubes, cinder cones and fissures. Pack a light bag and explore its many trails, and if you’re just making a quick trip, opt for a 15 minute light walk to the top of Inferno Cone for a view of the vast lava formation.

If time allows, plan to stay as the sun goes down and check out the out of this world night skies at Craters of the Moon. The area is a designated International Dark Sky Park, which means there will be no shortage of stars to observe.

Sawtooth National Recreation Area

The Sawtooth National Recreation Area is bursting with adventure. With 300 high-mountain lakes and 700 miles of trails to explore, your biggest struggle will be choosing just one days worth of activities. When planning, give yourself an extra day or two to go hot springs hunting. This part of the state is known for its hidden healing waters.

Recreational pursuits include hiking, backpacking, fishing, boating and canoeing, rafting, observing nature, photographing and bicycling so remember to take your adventurous side with you.
