Torrey
The pretty town of Torrey is the gateway to Capitol Reef National Park and is considered one of Southern Utah’s jewels.
Torrey was settled in the 1880’s by Mormon pioneers, attracted by the great source of water flowing from Thousand Lake Mountain. It was seen many famous visitors, including Butch Cassidy, Maynard Dixon Zane Grey, John Wesley Powell and Wallace Stegner. Currently, there’s a mixture of the descendants of the pioneers and a variety of newcomers, favouring the vast hiking opportunities in the surrounding mountains and canyons.
