Make sure you have your camera with you…….the views are simply intoxicating. A little further ahead is authentic old-time Hawaii in the form of the charming little town of Hanalei. From the end of Hanalei Pier, the mountains form a stunning backdrop on three sides, complete with rainforests, waterfalls, the mist hanging along the mountaintops and everywhere, rainbows.
Most of the major resorts are located on the south side of the island along with many of the best beaches, golf courses and many activities. Drive south from the airport in Lihue towards the Poipu area, through the ‘Tree Tunnel’, into historic Old Koloa Town. Venture further along the south shore and spend time enjoying the exotic gardens and sweeping views of Kukuiolono Park. A few miles further down the road is the Hanapepe Lookout with fabulous views of the valley and the Hanapepe River.
