Alaska Gold Rush North – Guided Motorcycle Tour

The Alaska gold rush of the late 1890’s may be long past, but the roads between Seattle and Anchorage are still lined with jaw-dropping vistas, rugged landscapes, and an endless parade of wildlife that are worth their weight in gold for any rider. From the moment you throw your leg over the Harley Davidson Pan America in Seattle you will experience incredible vistas. You’ll ride through Canada, along the infamous ALCAN Highway and into Alaska. This fully guided tour was designed and will be led by one of EagleRider’s most experienced expert guides who spent years living, working, and traveling on two-wheels in Alaska. Your view of this historic stretch of road between Seattle and Alaska may not be from the back of a horse or as part of a wagon train, but we promise the ride on your Pan America with an expert guide team will be a heck of a lot more comfortable and fun! Space on this tour is limited to just 10 bikes, all of which will be H-D Pan Americas, so stake your claim on this historic journey today!

Day 2

Seattle, Washington

Today is yours to explore Seattle. Enjoy a long leisurely stroll down the famed Seattle waterfront, a ferry ride on Elliot Bay, visit the Space Needle, or try your hand throwing salmon at the world famous Pike’s Place Market. Tonight you will take in a great dinner at a local landmark restaurant and have a chance to meet your guide team and fellow riders.


Day 3

Winthrop, Washington

235mi / 378km

Today you grab your H-D Pan America from EagleRider, say goodbye to the City of Seattle and quickly make your way to some of the most beautiful back roads in the State of Washington. Highway 9 is a Northwest treasure that winds through the carnation and tulip fields as you head north towards the North Cascades National Park and Scenic Byway. The North Cascades Scenic Byway offers some of the most stunning scenery south of the Canadian Rockies. Your stop for the night is the small western-themed town of Winthrop, Washington where you will sit along the river sipping an ice cold drink or glass of wine and reflect on the incredible day you had. If the first day of riding is this good, just imagine what lies ahead!


Day 4

Kamloops, British Columbia

317mi / 510km

You’ll enjoy a morning coffee along the river before heading north and crossing the border into the heart of Canada’s wine country, Oliver, B.C. After crossing the border, you will explore roads that wind through vineyards and fruit stands then lunch along the shores of Canada’s beautiful Lake Okanogan. From here you head northwest, riding through the majestic mountains rising in the distance as you make your way to Kamloops, B.C. to enjoy some Canadian hospitality. The real adventure is just beginning, and the rest of this journey will ride through some of the most rugged landscape in North America.


Day 5

Prince George, British Columbia

325mi / 523km

This stretch of road is lined with lakes around every other bend, and rich with historic road houses from the time of the Cariboo gold rush. You will have lunch in Williams Lake, known for their log home construction and large logging industry, not to mention some incredible scenery. Much of the riding today is along the Fraser River, offering canyon views and great winding roads. You and your Pan America are moving deeper into Northern Canada and about to hit the infamous Alaskan Highway, or “ALCAN Highway,” so get some rest tonight.


Day 6

Fort St John, British Columbia

271mi / 436km

Today you will travel through the awesome mountain roads of Pine Le Moray Provincial Park on your way to Dawson Creek where you will stop for group and individual photos of the “0 Mile” post for the Alaska Hwy, also known as the ALCAN. You will finish the day in Fort St John, a town that sprung as a fur trading post between early pioneers and the local population.


Day 7

Fort Nelson, British Columbia

237mi / 381km

Today is the day the ride begins to feel even more remote, which is exactly why youre travelling with a professional experienced guide and support vehicle. Towns are further apart, with names like Sikanni Chief, Bucking Horse, and Trutch. Traffic becomes minimal and wildlife sightings will become more prevalent along roadways. The ride up to this point has been awesome, but this is why you are here, right? To experience the last great frontier in North America from the saddle of bike that was built for these conditions. Tonight you stay in the town of Fort Nelson which is known for establishing an air base during WW2 for the Royal Canadian and US air forces. It was also the original “0 Mile” marker for the ALCAN before they extended it down to Dawson Creek.


Day 8

Watson Lake, Yukon

319mi / 513km

Today you will ride through the most northern part of the Canadian Rockies, then along the stunning length of Lake Muncho. It is hard to do the view any justice with words, as you ride through the valley, along Lake Muncho, with incredible foothills and peaks rising on both sides. You will take an awesome break along the Laird River and the famous hot springs that are located there for some lunch and possibly a dip in the springs. After lunch you will be crossing into the Yukon Territory and spend the night in the small town of Watson Lake. If it weren’t for the Pan America you are riding and the paved roads, you’d swear you were back in the 1890’s.


Day 9

Whitehorse, Yukon

272mi / 438km

Today you venture through Yukon and across the Continental Divide, then along 75-mile long Teslin Lake before crossing over the famous Yukon River. This River served as the main source for getting the stampeders and miners into the goldfields of the Klondike, as well as getting them out once they were flush with gold. You will finish your day in Whitehorse, the capital and largest city in the Yukon.


Day 10

Whitehorse, Yukon

You’ve done a lot of riding up to this point, so take some time to enjoy historic Whitehorse. Visit the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Center and the Klondike SS Klondike Ferry & Museum to get a real sense of the First Nations and gold rush history of this region. If the weather is cooperating, which is usually is this time of year, there will be an optional day ride to waterfront town of Skagway, Alaska, known for it’s historic small town, scenic railway, glaciers, and more.


Day 11

Beaver Creek, Yukon

277mi / 446km

This is the most remote ride of the tour, with very few towns, but the riding and scenery are some of the best. You will pass through the lands of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, followed by a bridge crossing of Kualane Lake on your way to Destruction Bay and, finally, Beaver Creek, which sits right on the border between Canada’s Yukon Territory and the US State of Alaska. It’s a little bittersweet as it’s your last day in the Yukon, but tomorrow you cross into Alaska.


Day 12

Copper Centre, Alaska

259mi / 417km

Today you cross into Alaska! Wait until you see the views of the Wrangell St. Elias National Park and Preserve as you ride along one of the most remote stretches of paved road in all of Alaska, the Tok Highway. Few who venture to Alaska will ever see this part of the state, as it’s off the main tourist route travelled. Your day will end in Copper Center as you kick back and enjoy some relaxation and the views along the Klutina River.


Day 13

Fairbanks, Alaska

260mi / 418km

Today’s route will take you along large sections of the Alaska pipeline on your way north through the heart of the Alaska Range. You will make a stop in the town of Delta Junction for some photos of the terminus of the ALCAN Highway at mile marker 1422. Along the way, you guessed it, more stunning vistas, wildlife, small towns, and Alaskan adventure. You end your ride today in Fairbanks, another Alaska gold town that came to life immediately following the Klondike Gold Rush.


Day 14

Denali National Park, Alaska

127mi / 204km

You will kick off an incredible day with a true once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Based on availability, you may have an option to take a flight over the Arctic Circle that includes a stop in the remote town of Cold Foot where you can receive a certificate for having travelled north of the Arctic Circle. Afterwards, you’ll grab a quick lunch and make the ride to Denali for the night.


Day 15

Anchorage, Alaska

231mi / 372km

Today you will enter into Denali National Park in hopes of the clouds cooperating and giving you a clear view of Denali, the largest mountain in North America at 20,300 feet. From there you will make your way south to the town of Talkeetna, well known for being the base camp for climbers that attempt to summit Denali. You’ll grab lunch in Talkeetna and make the final push into Anchorage. It’s hard to believe this journey is coming to an end, but you will end with a hosted farewell dinner and celebration tonight, and say goodbye until next time to your new family of riders that has been forged over these many incredible miles.


Day 16

Journey Home

You may choose to stay on in Alaska for more sightseeing or a tour. Otherwise, you make your way to Anchorage Airport and check in for your flight back to the UK.
