1. First Passage to the West
Named for the pass over which it crosses, the train commences its journey in Vancouver where you will travel through the legendary Spiral Tunnels and pass by Craigellachie, the spot where the last spike on the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven. Your adventure through the Canadian Rocky Mountains includes an overnight stop in Kamloops before reaching its final destination of Lake Louise of Banff.
This route also operates in the opposite direction. Passengers enjoying this two-day route will see one of many highlights, one being the Cisco Crossings, where the CP and CN rail tracks overlap. The orange truss arch bridge, one of two bridges, is the largest single-span bridge on the CN line at 247 metres (812 feet) long.

2. Journey Through the Clouds
Witness the unparalleled beauty of the highest peaks in the Canadian Rockies and the remote vistas of Canada’s West. Your adventure starts in Vancouver and follows the same legendary journey to Kamloops where an overnight stop is taken, then takes the higher route through the scenic valleys and the Canadian Rocky Mountains to a final destination of Jasper.
This route also operates in the opposite direction. Known for the abundance of wildlife, make sure you keep your eyes peeled for one of Canada’s favourite animals at Moose Lake! As the name of this lake suggests, there is a good chance you may spot a moose on the lake’s shore. This two-day route also includes a visit to Hells Gate where every minute 750-million litres of water crashes through a narrow 33-metre (108-foot) wide gorge – double that of Niagara Falls.

3. Rainforest to Gold Rush
Carve through extreme landscapes like BC’s coastal rainforest, the rugged Fraser Canyon, and the historic Cariboo gold rush region. The Rainforest to Gold Rush route is a three day journey, commencing in Vancouver. Day one follows the Sea to Sky Corridor to Whistler, alighting the train in Pemberton where a 35 minute coach transfer is made to your hotel in Whistler. Day two follows the mighty Fraser River to Quesnel where a second overnight stay is taken. On day three the train climbs through the Rocky Mountain Trench and Cariboo Mountains to its ultimate destination of Jasper.
This route also operates in the opposite direction. The historic Caribou Gold Rush region and the lush forests of northern British Columbia are highlights of this route. One of our favourites is Mount Robson. Look up, look waaaaay up and you will see what is also known as “The Great White Fright”, Mount Robson claims the title of the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies at a staggering 3,954 meters (12,972 feet).

4. Rockies to The Red Rocks
Rocky Mountaineer is excited to bring their world-class experience to America’s Southwest. Their newest route, Rockies to the Red Rocks, will give you the adventure you crave with the service you deserve. From vast canyons and chromatic deserts, to red sandstone landscapes that twist through the bright blue sky, this rail route is filled with highlights best seen by their glass-dome coaches. The two-day train journey travels between Denver, Colorado to Moab, Utah with an overnight stay in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Pre-planned Itineraries - Canada
We have two pre-planned holiday itineraries which include a Canadian Rocky Mountaineer Rail Journey. These can be taken as shown, or modified to suit your plans. One option includes car rental and the second offers ground transportation without the need for driving.
Rocky Mountain Explorer – This popular 13 night fly drive gives you the opportunity to enjoy the scenic ‘Journey Through the Clouds’ route, between Vancouver and Jasper, onboard Rocky Mountaineer in SilverLeaf Service. It also includes three nights in Vancouver prior to your rail journey, and two nights in Jasper, two in Banff, two in Lake Louise and two in Calgary following disembarkation.
Western Canada Discovery – If your idea for a perfect holiday is to sit back and relax, without the hassle of driving, then this itinerary is for you. This 14 night package includes two days onboard Rocky Mountaineer, enjoying the ‘First Passage to the West’ route between Vancouver and Banff in SilverLeaf Service. Following two nights in Vancouver and a mini coach tour along the Sea to Sky Highway, you’ll enjoy three nights in Whistler. A seaplane takes you across the water to Vancouver Island for a further three night stay in Victoria before taking the ferry back to Vancouver. Following your Rocky Mountaineer journey, you’ll enjoy two nights in Banff and two nights in Calgary before flying home.
Pre-planned Itineraries - USA
The two day rail journey between Denver, Colorado and Moab, Utah can be included in any number of wonderful itineraries. You may wish to explore Colorado prior to your rail experience or Utah, Nevada or Arizona following your rail experience. We have two wonderful fly drive options for you to look at, as well as two others which combine the rail tour with an escorted tour. Should you wish us to create a tailored itinerary, encompassing your desired locations, just let us know and we would be happy to assist.
Rockies, Rail and Red Rocks – is a 15 night itinerary which enjoys a pre-stay in Denver and goes on to explore’s Utah’s ‘Might Five’ national parks and northern Arizona (including The Grand Canyon), before ending in Las Vegas.
Shimmering Southwest Scenery – is a 14 night fly drive, which visits Canyonlands and Arches National Parks, Monument Valley, The Grand Canyon and then winds its way south into Arizona, enjoying Sedona, Flagstaff and Scottsdale.
High Tracks & Might Five – is a 15 night itinerary, which starts with three nights in Denver, before taking the rail tour from Denver to Moab. Next, you take the ‘American Parks Trail’ escorted tour which winds its way through Utah’s Canyonlans. The tour ends in las Vegas where we have provided three nights to explore The Entertainment Capital of the World.
Rockies Rail & American Parks Trail – is a 14 night itinerary, which starts with a stay in Salt Lake City. From here you enjoy the ‘American Parks Trail’ escorted tour, which explores Wyoming and South Dakota, before ending in Denver. Next, you take the two day rail tour to Moab, where a three night stay allows you to explore Arches and Canyonlands National Park’s.
