Alamo - Drive Happy

Founded in Florida in 1974, Alamo bring a wealth of experience to the car rental market. Along with sister companies National & Enterprise, they offer a huge range of depots across the whole of North America, including airport and downtown locations for your added convenience.

We would suggest that AlamoGold offers the level of coverage that the majority of our clients require, however we have other options should it not be suitable. AlamoGold coverage includes:

  • Unlimited mileage
  • Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) – Alamo’s CDW limits the renter against costs for damage to the Alamo car (including theft and vandalism), regardless of who is at fault
  • Extended Protection (EP) – this provides the renter with up to $1 million third party liability protection for accidental death or injury to the authorised renter or passengers. From January 1st 2025, this changes to SLP with $300,000 liability coverage.
  • State and local taxes
  • First tank of petrol – the larger the car, the more fuel you receive, giving you more free miles and even better value
  • Up to three additional drivers

The only things you would have to pay for locally would be (where applicable):

  • Young driver fees
  • Child/infant seat rentals
  • One way rental drop off fees
  • Additional petrol
  • Roadside Assistance Plus
  • Any upgrade in vehicle category you agree to at the rental station
  • Taxes on these items

Prices vary according to car size, depot location, duration and date of rental and insurance option chosen, so please call for a quote specific to your personal requirements.

Personal Protection Insurance
This is an optional extra which provides cover in the event of injury or death to the driver or passengers, plus protection of personal possessions from theft, loss or damage. Your holiday travel insurance may give you adequate cover, therefore, we recommend that you ascertain your need for this insurance before you collect your vehicle, as once accepted, it is non-refundable.

Rental Terms
Cars are reserved by category, not by specific make, model or engine size. Alamo reserves the right to substitute similar or larger cars at no extra rental charge. Most cars have automatic transmission and air-conditioning.

Airport Arrival
In cities where Alamo does not have a rental counter inside the airport terminal, a courtesy shuttle service, which generally leaves from outside the baggage claim area, will transport you directly to the Alamo depot.

Rental Charges
All rentals are based on the 24-hour clock. So, if the vehicle is collected at 6pm on July 1st for a two week period, it must be returned to the rental location no later than 6pm on July 15th. A grace period of only 29 minutes is granted. Late returns will be charged at Alamo’s local tariff. Cash is not accepted for any local payments in the USA or Canada.

Minimum/Maximum age restrictions
Renters and additional authorized drivers must be 21 years of age or older, except where provincial or state law provides otherwise. Renters and additional authorized drivers aged between 21 and 25 years of age may only be permitted to rent/drive specific vehicle classes and an additional young driver fee may apply. There is no maximum age restriction in the USA or Canada, except where the rental commences at National Canada Licensee locations in British Columbia where the maximum age for all rentals is 79 years.

Additional Drivers
At the time of pick up, all passengers intending to drive the car must be present and provide their driver’s licence. Digital driving licenses are not accepted. An additional fee per driver per day if applicable is payable locally if not included in your rental and only authorised drivers listed on the Alamo rental agreement are permitted to drive the vehicle.

Partially Used Rentals
We are unable to offer refunds for a car rental that has not been used in its entirety.

Global Positioning System
Alamo offers the option of pre-booking GPS (Global Positioning System) as part of your car reservation. GPS is available at most depots and on most car categories. We highly recommend that you include it in your rental or, should you have your own with U.S./Canadian mapping, we suggest you take it with you when you travel.

Road Tolls
Many toll authorities have removed the cash/credit card payment booths on some toll roads and bridges so if you choose to use a toll road/bridge which does not offer a cash/credit card payment option, the only payment method available to you is the electronic system of payment called TollPass. On roadways covered by our TollPass service, the program allows Renters to drive through electronic toll lanes and pay tolls electronically. The program is offered in three ways, depending on rental area.

Toll Pass Automatic – the renter may be charged a TollPass Convenience Charge (TCC) (where available) of $4.95-$5.35 per day during the rental period for each day the rental vehicle is operated on a TCC covered road and the vehicle operator does not pay an applicable toll. Total TCC will not to exceed $26.75 per every 30-day rental. In addition to the TCC, the provider or a third party may separately charge the renters credit card for the posted cost of all tolls that are not paid by the vehicle operator and are incurred during the rental period.

Toll Pass Waiver – the renter may elect Toll Pass Waiver (TPW) to rent a toll pass transponder device in the Chicago Metropolitan area. The TPW charge is $11.99 per rental day. The TPW charges include all tolls generated on all toll roads.

Toll Pass Device – the renter may rent a toll pass device at the time of rental at locations in the Northeast United States. The charge for the toll pass device is $4.95 per rental day with a maximum of $24.75 per every 30-day Rental.
