Santa Fe, or “Town of the Holy Faith” and the capital of New Mexico is nestled at 7000 feet in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and still maintains its Spanish colonial charm. Home to some of the best galleries in the country and surrounded by millions of acres of forest, it is the place for numerous outdoor activities.

Take a fun road trip off the beaten path and visit ancient Indian ruins, traditional pueblos, old mining towns revived by artists, high mountain Spanish Colonial villages and New Mexico wineries.

Santa Fe offers mind-blowing golf options everything from mountain to high-desert courses, all with stunning views of the New Mexico landscape. At the top of the must-play list is Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe, just eight miles west of downtown.

River rafting on the mighty Rio Grande takes you down white water rapids and serene floats. The surrounding mountains and public lands hold an endless variety of trail options with terrain for every skill level making Santa Fe a perfect stepping off point for a cycling or hiking or horseback riding adventure.

Shopping in Santa Fe takes you on an odyssey, into charming historic buildings filled with treasures handmade and hard to find anywhere else. If you happen to be in Santa Fe in August, check the dates and be sure to visit the Indian Market, held annually.

Dining is a great experience too in Santa Fe. With Spanish and Native American influences, chile is hot on the list. Just be prepared to answer red or green…. But there is plenty of other international dining options to suit every palate and pocket.
