  • Whitefish Lake

Whitefish lies at the north end of the Flathead Valley in Northwest Montana along the shores of Whitefish Lake. It is just minutes from one of Montana's largest ski resorts, Whitefish Mountain Resort, and about 25 miles west of Glacier National Park.

The streets and roads in and around Whitefish are friendly to casual and serious cyclers alike. The town's Fish Trails, an excellent system of bike and pedestrian paths, meander along Whitefish River, by several city parks, and around the town. Visitors can also enjoy swimming, boating, water skiing, and kayaking on Whitefish Lake.

While Glacier National Park is open year-round, summer in Whitefish offers close access to the hanging valleys and emerald peaks of this World Heritage Site, just 25 miles from town. Fish a clear mountain stream, hike an alpine trail, or embark on a historic driving tour of the famed Going-to-the-Sun Road. More than 700 miles of well-marked trails provide an incredible variety of hiking to explore mountain lakes, glaciers, plant life, and glimpses of the full-time residents such as grizzly and black bears, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, moose, deer, and more.

    • Top Tip 1

We would go as far as to rate Montana's Glacier National Park as a must-see. Its outstanding beauty will take your breath away.

    • Top Tip 2

September is the perfect month to visit Montana. The fall colours are coming through, the wildlife reappears after the hot summer months, and of course it's much quieter as the summer holidays are over.
