Although location plays a huge part in our holiday decisions, many other factors influence our choice. In particular ‘what do I do when I get there?’ Let me introduce you to a destination which ticks all the boxes. Fabulous location – yes. The finest hotels – yes. Elegant spas – yes. Upscale shopping – yes. Equestrian activities – yes. Championship golf – yes. Award-winning dining – yes. You don’t have to choose, Palm Beach County has it all!

    Ahhh… the spa!

With a reputation for prestigious hotels battling for the right to boast the best spa in Palm Beach County, you can be assured of a spa experience second- to-none wherever you stay. Massages, body treatments, hair and nail salon services and full wellness regimes. Escape for just an hour or relinquish yourself to a full day of relaxation and rejuvenation, a visit to the spa slots into any schedule.

Promising a magical spa experience with a variety of sensational beauty treatments and surprising touches throughout, create a personalized blend of aromatic herbs, oils and salts at the Scrub & Polish Bar at Eau Spa located at The Ritz-Carlton. One of the top 25 spa’s in North America, The Spa at The Breakers indulges you with stress relieving massages, body wraps, revitalizing scrubs and nourishing facials, boasting oceans of calming possibilities. Head to Si Spa at the Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island for treatments customized to your wellness needs, themed on the therapeutic qualities of seawater and the mesmerizing rhythm of waves breaking on the beach. Go on… spoil yourself.

It’s not a cure, but its retail ‘therapy’!

Everything from haute couture designer brand clothing, shoes and jewellery to internationally acclaimed paintings and antiques, prestigious Worth Avenue is the Rodeo Drive of the east. Although legendary for its high-end merchandise and outdoor lifestyle setting, it’s only one of many choices competing to satisfy you shopping desires.

In West Palm Beach you can browse Clematis Street or the incredible 72-acre CityPlace Mall. Open air to make the most of the Florida sunshine, its Italian-inspired architecture lends itself to the elegant retail options it offers. Visit The Gardens Mall in Palm Beach Gardens, or Town Centre Mall in Boca Raton – the various malls house no fewer than five Macy’s, plus Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, Nordstom, Saks Fifth Avenue and a whole host of speciality stores. Make sure you pack lightly, so you’ve room to bring your many purchases home.

If the professionals live here, it must be good!

Palm Beach County is known as Florida’s golf capital and it more than lives up to its excellent reputation. Imagine the choice as you ponder which of the 160 meticulously manicured golf courses you’d like to play today, each designed around cascading waterfalls, calm lakes, rolling hills, palm trees and sub-tropical foliage.

If you’re looking to combine your golf passion with a little relaxation, this destination would be a perfect choice as some of the best and most fabled courses can be found at Palm Beach County’s top hotel resorts. Take the Ocean Course at The Breakers for example. Florida’s oldest 18-hole course, it has been testing golfer’s skills since 1896. There are also four championship courses at Boca Raton Resort & Club, ranked by Golf Magazine as one of America’s top golf resorts. Add to these the five spectacular tournament courses at the PGA National Resort and already the choice is somewhat difficult.

Whether you’re looking for a demanding course, something less of a challenge, onsite pros to assist with your game or instructional academies, Palm Beach County has what you’re looking for. What’s more, some of the most famous and influential pro golfers, including Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman and Tom Fazio call this idyllic place home, and how can they be wrong?

    Not just horsing around!

Palm Beach County is all about lifestyle, so it’s no surprise that the equestrian world is drawn from far and wide to pair its love for Polo, Steeplechase and Dressage with warm sunny weather, a leisurely champagne tipple and lots of fun.

This is home to the International Polo Club Palm Beach, which was designed to showcase the incredible skill of the ponies and players. Many exciting tournaments are played here, mainly between the months of January and April, culminating in the prestigious US Polo Championship.

Head to Wellington and the western communities where flying over stiles and fences in steeplechase is not only an exciting pursuit to take part in, but just as entertaining to watch. If you’re looking for a less vigorous equestrian sport, you can’t help but admire the precision and dedication it takes for dressage. When you’ve finished watching everyone else take to the saddle, why not do so yourself? No matter what your riding level, there are lots of stables and miles upon miles of trails to explore in a variety of natural parks. So grab your hat and boots, saddle up your horse and as they say in the movies ‘ride the range’.

Palm Beach County is a large region with numerous golf courses and sandy beaches - with so many places to choose from, we have selected a few of our favourites.

    Palm Beach

Separated from mainland Florida by the scenic Lake Worth Lagoon, the legendary town of Palm Beach is truly an island unto itself. Its colourful history began when the town’s founding father, Henry Flagler, declared it a “veritable paradise” in the late 1800s. Since then, members of America’s aristocracy, storied tycoons, and socialites have referred to Palm Beach as home. The year-round appeal of this island town is thanks to the impressive collection of gourmet restaurants, designer boutiques, and the shopper’s nirvana, Worth Avenue, also known as the “Rodeo Drive of the East Coast.”

    Palm Beach Gardens

Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, is a Signature City which celebrates quality-of-life and is one of the top locations in Florida's Golf Capital. Downtown at the Gardens is a unique, open-air, pedestrian only shopping mecca featuring an extraordinary collection of restaurants, many of the nation’s finest specialty retailers, live entertainment and unique events.

    Delray Beach

Just 15 miles from Palm Beach International Airport, Delray Beach, "The Village by the Sea" a first class resort situated on the Atlantic coast of Florida, is filled with art galleries, upscale shops, fine restaurants and great nightly entertainment. By day, do as little or as much as you like on Delray’s pristine beach. Soak up the sun or partake in many of the water sports available including sailing, surfing and jet skiing. From executive courses to championship links, golfers of all abilities will have no trouble finding a course to their liking. The lush, tropical courses are impeccably maintained to ensure round after round of superb golf in the Florida sunshine.

    Singer Island

Just 65 miles north of Miami and 8 miles from Palm Beach, the tropical resort of Singer Island is an oceanfront neighbourhood of Riviera Beach, offering natural beauty, seven miles of pristine beaches and upscale hotels and resorts. Singer Island is famous for its wide sandy beaches and warm Gulf Stream waters. Just a few minutes away from PGA National and other major golf courses, is downtown West Palm Beach and the world famous Worth Avenue shopping district on Palm Beach. Simply relax in the sun or enjoy the adventures of scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing, and windsurfing, jet skiing, boating and bicycling. Singer Island is renowned for its blue water sport fishing. Here both locals and visitors experience the thrill of catching trophy sailfish, marlin, wahoo and dolphin. Also, a variety of angling challenges can be found at the Island's docks, jetties, bridges and shorelines. As the sunset drifts into nightfall, choose from a wide variety of fine restaurants before dancing the night away at the many popular night spots.

    • Top Tip 1

From May to October, look out for the sea turtles laying their eggs in the sand and the subsequent migration of the hatchlings from their nest to the ocean. Some turtles will lay up to 250 eggs in the one nest! Naples is a great place to experience this.

    • Top Tip 2

Driving through the Florida Keys is straightforward as there is just one road in and out - Highway 1. Everything is measured by 'Mile Markers'. Start at MM127 and go through to MM0, which is when you know you've arrived in Key West.

    • Top Tip 3

Whilst in the Keys, visit the Dolphin Research Centre in Marathon. You'll not only learn all about our favourite marine mammal, you can swim with them too.

    • Top Tip 4

For the best Florida shopping experience, and there are plenty of them, our vote goes to Mizner Park in Boca Raton for a relaxed, upscale shopping and dining experience.

    • Top Tip 5

Another 'must do' shopping experience is of course Worth Avenue, Palm Beach, even if it's just for a little window-shopping.

    • Top Tip 6

There are lots of toll roads in Florida, and you may find you're on one soon after you leave the airport so be prepared with some quarters to save time. Charges vary but expect to pay approximately $1.50 each time.

    • Top Tip 7

For a really fun experience, take an airboat ride on the Everglades spotting alligators and manatees. It's an experience that all the family will enjoy.

    • Top Tip 8

If you're travelling during the summer months, be prepared for afternoon showers most days. They only last a couple of hours and it soon dries up...and of course it's usually warm rain!

    • Top Tip 9

Longboat Key, Naples and Marco Island are three of Florida's best kept secrets. All have wonderful beaches as well as great golf, fine dining and luxury shopping.

    • Top Tip 10

One of Florida's most scenic drives is route A1A which hugs the coast all the way from Fernandino Beach in the north to Fort Lauderdale where it becomes Highway 1 and continues down to Key West.
