Arrive New Orleans
Depart the UK on your chosen flight to New Orleans. Upon arrival, take the complimentary transfer to your hotel, which is located in the heart of the French Quarter. This evening, meet your fellow travelling companions for a welcome reception and dinner.
As your hotel boasts a wonderful location, today you set out on foot for a walking tour from picturesque Jackson Square to bustling Bourbon Street. En route, discover the cool sounds of jazz as you meander through Canal Street, the waterfront and the Warehouse District. Savour local culinary delights including beignets and etouffees, whilst enjoying a private demonstration at the New Orleans School of Cooking. Later, you’ll be introduced to the magical world of Mardi Gras, with an insider's view of how this festivity is planned and created. This evening, enjoy a private jazz experience at the legendary Preservation Hall.
New Orleans Nature & Music
Sitting below sea level, New Orleans has experienced the destructive force of mother nature. Today you’ll witness some of the damage and hear from an environmental expert about the city's defences for the future. Later, you'll visit the New Orleans' Jazz National Historical Park and enjoy dinner in one of the French Quarter's legendary restaurants.
Vermilionville & Lafayette
Leaving New Orleans, you'll head out along the Mississippi River into the heart of 'Cajun Country'. Enjoy a private Bal de Maison (house party) with a home-style lunch, Arcadian music and storytelling. A stop at Vermilionville, a living history park recreating Arcadian village life, immerses you into the French-speaking culture of the Arcadians. Interpreters share details of life here in the early days and local dancers introduce the Cajun two-step.
Continue your discovery of the Cajun culture today with a visit to the Jean Lafitte Acadian Cultural Centre, followed by a visit to Shadows-on-the-Teche: a pre-Civil War home on Bayou Teche in New Iberia preserved by the National Trust. Following lunch, you’ll set out to visit Jefferson Island. Dinner this evening comes Cajun style in the town of Breaux Bridge, the 'Crawfish Capital of the World', and includes food, music and dancing.
Filled with bayous, marshes and cypresses, the Atchafalaya Basin is the largest swamp in the USA, and today you’ll venture into these wetlands to observe their abundant wildlife on a guided boat tour. Your route back to the ‘Big Easy’ takes you along scenic Highway 90.
Following breakfast, you may choose to meander through Magazine Street and New Orlean’s Garden District before boarding a private streetcar for a tour along St Charles Avenue to the National World War II Museum. Spend the afternoon at leisure before enjoying a horse-drawn carriage ride through the French Quarter to your farewell jazz reception and dinner at Arnaud’s Restaurant.
There’s time for some last minute souvenir shopping before taking your transfer back to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
