Welcome to the Southwest’s premier holiday destination. In a single Scottsdale day, you can test your skills on one of the award-winning golf courses; soak up the sun by a beautiful pool; take an edge-of-your-seat off-road tour; soar high above the desert in a hot air balloon; be pampered in a spa; enjoy wonderful shopping and round it all off with a fabulous meal.

Speaking of dining, there’s over 600 restaurants in the Scottsdale area to choose from, ranging from fine-dining experiences, many boasting award-winning chefs, to quick and casual restaurants – something for all budgets and palates. Late night activities include hip nightclubs and cozy wine bars…infact downtown Scottsdale alone offers more than 75 evening venues to choose from.

Scottsdale sits in the heart of the Sonoran Desert, the most verdant and biologically diverse desert in North America. The mountains, rivers and lush expanses of cacti-studded landscapes provide the perfect setting for outdoor adventures of any kind. Why not take a guided tour? Taking you away from the beaten path into pristine valleys and canyons. You may chose to enjoy a taste of the Old West by horseback on a morning trail ride through the McDowell Mountain foothills. If you prefer to hike or bike Scottsdale is also your paradise - with a bountiful network of well-maintained trails, including those at Scottsdale McDowell Sonoran Preserve, Pinnacle Peak Park and Camelback Mountain.

You’re pretty much guaranteed blue-sky days every day of the year in Scottsdale. During the winter months of November through March the average daytime temperature is in the mid 70’s whilst in the summer months it soars to the high 90’s and above... but with a low humidity all year round you never feel uncomfortable. Simply perfect!

    Don’t Miss…

    • A hot air balloon ride over the desert - This is the ultimate way to experience Arizona's landscape, soaring high above the desert floor. It's an early start, but there is nothing more majestic than witnessing this spell-binding location at sunrise. If you prefer to keep your feet firmly on the ground, try one of the high-energy jeep tours.

    • Scottsdale's night scene - The choice of dining venues is spectacular, but one of our favourites is Olive & Ivy. Located in the Waterfront district, this casual yet chic restaurant overlooks the water and offers a choice of terrace or indoor dining and even a buzzing open-kitchen.

    • Old Town Scottsdale - A glimpse into a bygone era, Old Town cleverly combines western-style shopping and dining with upscale galleries and boutiques

    • World-class golf - Why not play a round at the T.P.C Scottsdale course, home to the prestigious WM Phoenix Open and part of the PGA tour circuit? Scottsdale boasts 174 golf courses, ensuring a range of challenging courses for every skill level

    • Hike the mountains - The McDowell Mountains offer a range of hiking routes, created to showcase its most spell-binding views.

    • Top Tip 1

Arizona positively teems with National Parks, not least the Grand Canyon. If you're planning to visit a number of national parks, save money by purchasing a National Park Annual Pass for just $80 per vehicle (it’s US$25 to enter the Grand Canyon, for example).

    • Top Tip 2

Take time out in Sedona to enjoy lunch by the creek at L'Auberge de Sedona. We can think of no better way to lose an afternoon!

    • Top Tip 3

The sunsets in Arizona are incredible. See as many as you can, camera at the ready, champagne in hand!

    • Top Tip 4

If you're driving from Scottsdale to the Grand Canyon, make sure you don't miss Oak Creek Canyon, just north of Sedona. The views are magnificent.

    • Top Tip 5

The Arizona desert is beautiful all year round, but if you want to see it in full bloom, visit during the spring when it's a carpet of colour.

    • Top Tip 6

If you're in Tucson during the summer and want to cool off, take a drive up Mount Lemmon in the Santa Catalina Mountains. You'll ascend to 9,000ft and enjoy wonderful views and a perfect temperature.

    • Top Tip 7

From Scottsdale, take the short 15-minute drive to Tempe Market Place for attractive shops in an outdoor setting, great water features, an open fireplace plus great places to eat. Go at the weekend for the bonus of some live bands. Fish lovers should eat at Kings Fish House.

    • Top Tip 8

There are many ways to see the Grand Canyon but the best way is to take a rafting trip along the Colorado River. These are available from half days to almost two week trips.

    • Top Tip 9

Take an early morning hot air balloon ride. It's well worth the early start to experience it and don't worry about heights. As strange as it may seem, you don't have that same sensation of height as you get standing on a tall building.

    • Top Tip 10

In north-eastern Arizona, visit Canyon de Chelly (pronounced Shay) to see the spectacular red cliffs and some ancient Pueblo cliff dwellings that date back at least 700 years.
